Cost of food and drink in UK

Food in the UK is available in a variety - from junk food to healthy diets - you name it. One thing's sure. Whether you like it or not, you're going to eat a lot of CHIPS (finger chips/fries as it is called in some places). Almost all towns have multi-cuisine restaurants (eat-in) or take-aways (pay and take the food away). You can find Indian, Chinese, Italian, Mexican and Carribean treats.

I myself am an adveturer when it comes to food. So, why should I take the surprise out for you. Have an open mind and try everything in town. That's part of the fun, isn't it!!

Vegetarian

Thankfully, in Britain, unlike most European countries, lot of vegetarian options are available. Vegetable pastry, Panini, Baguettes to name a few. You also get Veggie burgers, salads and chips at McDonalds, Burger King. Most chinese restaurants or take-aways offer vegetarian dishes too. There are loads of PIZZA home delivery shops in every town; they expect you to order a minimum of £7 - £10 worth food for a free delivery. There's also no dearth for PIZZAs, pasta, etc.... from Pizza Hut, Pizza Express, Dominos and Deep pan (the last two are my favourites).

All the superstores - Tesco, ASDA, Sainsburys to name a few stock ready to eat vegetarian food.

Once you settle down in a house / apartment and are prepared to cook, you are in a better position to survive as a vegetarian, if you find the food quite bland in taste. You get good fresh vegetables in the supermarkets and also some local grocery stores.

If you are looking for Indian spices, some / or all of the above stores stock them. Otherwise, do not worry. I guarantee, you'll find atleast one Indian / Pakistani / Bangladeshi shop (generally called The Asian shop) who stock the Indian food masalas and popular Indian vegetables.

Warning: If you are strictly vegetarian, expect to find EGG in your food sometimes. Fish is also considered vegetarian sometimes. So, be specific when you order food. Tell them, you want the item without meat and without egg.

Non Vegetarian

You're in for a treat. Chicken, beef and pork dishes are widely available everywhere. I do not want to elaborate here as I'm sure you'll be able to manage.

Fish, chips and peas is a favorite here, especially in the pubs.
